
Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has urged the Maa community to unite in their efforts to develop the region.
His call came as part of his ambitious plan to lift the community out of poverty.
In his first major rally held in Sajironi village, Kajiado Central Sub-Count,y on Thursday, Senetor Ole Kina described the meeting as a turning point for the community, aiming to shift focus from divisive politics.
He added that similar meetings would be held in Samburu, Baringo and Narok counties.
The event, which was designed as a women and youth’s empowerment programme, saw the donation of at least 180 high breed goats and nine Sahiwal bulls to the locals.
“The Maa community has been lagging behind in development. We want to chart a new path toward better education, economic empowerment, and more state jobs,” said Lekina.
He also criticised his political detractors, accusing them of failing amplify the community’s struggles.
Most of the elected leaders in Kajido gave the meeting a wide berth.
However, the Narok Senator urged the community to unite to benefit more from President Ruto’s administration.
Chaos erupted at Sajironi village in Kajiado County when two rival political groups confronted each other at the event. Trouble began when Kajiado Senator Seki Kana arrived by helicopter, just minutes after Senator Ole Kina.
As he attempted to access the dais, he was denied entry by rowdy youth, who were supported by a contingent of police officers.
‘’You will not enter in this meeting; you are not the convenor of this event. Go and prepare your own, and we will not attend,’’ shouted Ole Kina as he instructed his team to prevent Seki from entering. However, Senator Seki stood his ground, insisting that as the area senator, he could not be denied entry to a meeting held within his jurisdiction.
There was a stand-off lasting almost two hours as Senator Seki tried to gain entry. At one point, he was pushed to the ground, but his security quickly lifted him up. Anti-riot police officers stood by helplessly as the two rival groups confronted each other.
Both groups surged toward the crowd, causing a commotion that resulted in property worth millions of shillings being destroyed.
