Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo is facing another fight to save his job after Members of the County Assembly Tuesday tabled a motion to impeach him over alleged violation of the law and abuse of office.
The motion was tabled by Nominated MCA Juma Matunda in a session that lasted less than five minutes.
Speaker Enock Okero set Thursday for debate of the impeachment motion. This is the second time the county chief is facing impeachment after a similar attempt in 2023 flopped.
The motion was tabled after 28 out of 34 MCAs signed the document whose details could not be immediately established.
But sources at the Assembly indicated that among the issues raised against the governor was the alleged employment of his relatives and receiving Sh6 million as salary immediately after he took over as governor in 2021.
However, Nyaribo said some MCAs were being used by his opponents to sabotage the county development agenda.
"I know there are people working around the clock to bring me down. But I am sure I will be vindicated," Nyaribo said.
In November 2023, the impeachment motion that was filed by the MCAs failed to pass on the floor of the House after the majority opposed it.
The impeachment motion came at a time when he was also facing audit queries by the Senate Committee on Public Investments and Accounts Committee on Special Funds.
