The University of Nairobi (UoN) Dynamites piled more pressure on winless Storms pushing them into relegation in the Kenya Basketball Federation Women’s Premier League title chase.
Yesterday’s matches were moved to Strathmore University due to the unavailability of the Nyayo Gymnasium.
Dynamites dimmed Storms hopes of registering their first win this season as they trounced them 52-36 to increase their chances of sealing a play-offs slot.
The victory cemented the students spot in the top eight, and now they just have to keep winning to be safe. Susan Jepleting was on fire, sinking 16 points to help Dynamites chalk their fourth win.
Janie Getugi added 13 for the students, while Susan Anger top scored for Storms with nine points. The first quarter was dull, with both sides not making any meaningful moves to their intentions to bag maximum points. Dynamites would take a three-point lead after winning the quarter 9-6.
It was in the second period that Dynamites won the match as they staged a brilliant show to score 19 points against Storms eight and secure a 14-point half-time advantage with the score at 28-14.
On resumption, Storms were rejuvenated and played better than they had in the first half.
Coach Abel Nson’s half-time peptalk would result in Storms winning the third quarter 17-16, but they fumbled again in the fourth, scoring a paltry five points against Dynamites eight and succumbing to their 11th defeat.
Once a force to reckon with in the local league, Storms now a pale shadow of itself, seems to be condemned to demotion. They are struggling and are yet to win after 11 rounds of matches.
