CS Mbadi asks MPs to back Finance Bill, criticises 'propaganda' from Nyoro

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has hit out at leaders who are criticising the ="https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/national/article/2001517110/cs-mbadi-hints-at-additional-taxes-in-kenyas-2025-26-budget-plan">2025/2026 financial budget<, urging MPs to support the Finance Bill.

In an apparent reference to recent criticism from Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, Mbadi said the most vocal MP against the bill had failed in his leadership role in Parliament.

"When he was the chairman of the Budget and Appropriations Committee, the allocation for coffee was Sh3 billion. This financial year, we have Sh4 billion—Sh2 billion for coffee free promotion and an additional Sh2 billion for the Coffee Cherry Fund," the CS remarked.

Mbadi urged those criticising his ="https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/peter-kimani/article/2001519841/after-taking-all-your-cash-in-taxes-now-govt-says-it-requires-your-ideas-on-spending-it">proposed budget< to examine it more carefully, emphasising that even funds for sugar reforms had been included in the bill.

The CS also addressed claims made by the vocal MP that there was a lack of fairness and bias in the allocation of resources, despite the proposal for funds to construct bridges in Tana River.

Mbadi explained that for the first time in 60 years, the government would allocate funds for the construction of two bridges across the Tana River in Tana River County.

He said the construction of the two bridges, each costing Sh50 million, would save children and residents of Tana River, who have long complained about attacks from crocodiles.

"A constituency is receiving its first major development since independence. Yet, when the same gentleman was chair of the Budget and Appropriations Committee for two years, he was allocating Sh6 billion to his own constituency and county. One county was receiving Sh6 billion while others received nothing," Mbadi stated.

The CS reiterated that he had the knowledge, competence, and capacity to run the National Treasury, and called on ="https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/national/article/2001516773/mbadi-nyoro-differ-on-kenyas-debt-situation">Nyoro to stop spreading propaganda< against the Finance Bill.

“We must lift this country out of the debt burden and the economic problems we’ve faced for years. Please cooperate with us,” said CS Mbadi.

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, who attended the worship service, stressed the importance of giving leaders an opportunity to serve so that their leadership could be fully realised.

“Let us not allow any individual or leader to sow seeds of discord between our leaders and the leadership of President William Ruto,” the PS said.

PS Omollo added that no part of the country would be left behind.

Governor Ochilo Ayacko affirmed that they would unite as leaders with a shared focus on bringing development to their people.
