Tragic night crash claims four lives on NarokMaai Mahiu Road

Four people, including a motorcycle rider and a pillion passenger, were killed on Sunday night in a road accident along the Narok–Mai Mahiu Road near the Duka Moja SGR Flyover black spot.
Narok County Police Commander Riko Ngare, while confirming the accident, said the accident involved multiple vehicles.
The police reports indicate that a trailer heading towards Mai Mahiu from Narok hit a motorcycle travelling in the same direction.
Both the rider and the pillion passenger died on the spot.
“Moments later, the trailer veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with another trailer and a private vehicle, both coming from Mai Mahiu,” said Ngare.

The force of the impact caused both vehicles to swerve off the road.
“Among the casualties were a male passenger in the private vehicle and a female passenger aboard the trailer, who also died at the scene. All three drivers sustained multiple injuries and were rushed to Narok County and Referral Hospital,” he added.
The bodies of the deceased persons were moved to the Narok County hospital mortuary.
This stretch of road between Narok and Mai Mahiu has become notorious for fatal accidents, raising concerns over speeding, reckless overtaking, and poor road discipline, particularly by long-distance trailer drivers.
The accident happened hardly two weeks after a senior traffic police officer died in a tragic road accident on the same spot Saturday night, June 28, 2025.
Residents and leaders have repeatedly urged the government to install speed cameras, improve road signage, and deploy more highway patrols along the route, which serves as a critical link between the South Rift and Nairobi.
With Sunday’s crash pushing the death toll higher, there is growing demand for urgent interventions to curb the carnage.
Ngare has urged drivers to observe speed limits, avoid overtaking on blind spots, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and appealed to the public to help identify the deceased, most of whom remain unnamed.
