Defending champions Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and leaders Kenya Police were in a cutthroat competition on the second day of the second leg of the National Boxing League in Mombasa yesterday.

Both teams were in a neck-to-neck race as their boxers romped into the finals in the fight for top honours.

The duo of light heavyweight Robert Okaka and cruiserweight Chris Ochanda, both KDF boxers, cruised into the finals after outwitting their opponents.

Okaka beat Lazarus Odote of Mombasa on points after Ochanda had dismissed Victor Okeke of Kongowea with a similar result.

Police made a comeback to have their super heavyweight Hakem Abubakar and light heavyweight Humphrey ‘Jakababa’ Ochieng proceed to the finals.

Ochieng’ ‘Jakababa’ walloped Oliver Omondi of Nakuru C as Abubaka overcame Jusper Sagali of Kenya Prisons, all on points.

Jakababa faces Robert Okaka in the finals this afternoon.

”This is a year I must show people dust,” said Jakababa.

Former league champions Kenya Prisons had a bad day in office after most of their boxers exited the tournament.

Flyweight Moses Kilavuka was beaten on points by policeman Diouf Muimi in a one-sided match after the first loss by Sagali (Justus) to Abubakar (Hakeem).

The finals will be played today.
