A man has been jailed for 20 years by a Kakamega court for defiling a 13-year-old girl.

Felix Atwolo alias Boy, was handed the sentence by Senior Resident Magistrate Viena Amboko.

Court documents stated that on June 27, last year at Ibwanza village, Mukhonje sub-location, Atwolo defiled the minor.

During the trial, the minor told the court that Atwolo confronted her while on her way to school, dragged her to a bush, tied her hands, and defiled her.

State Prosecutor Duncan Mbonzo said the minor was rescued by a passerby who heard her screaming.

In mitigation, Atwolo pleaded for leniency, saying he was the sole breadwinner in his family.

However, in her judgment, Amboko said there was compelling evidence against him.

"The offence is serious and having considered what he stated in mitigation and all other circumstances of the case, I sentence him to serve 20 years in prison," she said.
