An officer attached to the Presidential Escort Unit died after collapsing at the Karen Police Station on Tuesday evening.
Sergeant Daniel Kipruto Kangogo collapsed while attempting to board a Toyota Prado car that was parked at the station where he was in the company of Sergeant Ronald Rono also working under the Presidential Escort Unit.
Kipruto died on arrival at the Karen Hospital where he had been rushed. The officer’s cause of death was not immediately established.
The Unit headed by Noah Maiyo, is normally responsible for the safety and protection of the President, First Family, retired Presidents, Deputy President, visiting Heads of State and Governments, and any other high-profile individuals as may be directed by the Inspector-General of Police.
Last month, Komora Mubadi Jilo collapsed while waiting to be interviewed for the position of chairman, National Police Service Commission (NPSC) at the Public Service Commission offices along Harambee Avenue.
Meanwhile, a missing pistol was recovered in a thicket behind Githiga Police Station in Kiambu County. The loaded weapon was found by a man who was clearing the bush. The firearm had been wrapped in a blue carrier bag.
“The scene was processed, and a Jericho pistol, serial number KE.KP.44321352 was recovered along with a magazine containing 15 rounds of ammunition. Preliminary instigations revealed that the firearm had been reported missing on February 16, 2025,” read a police report.
