St Patrick’s Segere Mixed Secondary will be seeking to rewrite history as their football and volleyball teams prepare for the 2025 Siaya Sub County Secondary School Term Two games set to kick off at Ambrose Adeya Adongo Secondary School.
Segere are confident of making it to the Siaya County finals set for June 19th at St Mary’s School Yala and their football coach Peter Juma believes they have a team that can challenge some of the best teams at the level.
In fact, Juma is daring defending champions Barding High School after being pooled alongside the former East Africa football champions in Group A alongside Unyolo.
Speaking to the Standard Sports, Juma said they have had promising results since they started playing in the zonal and division levels.
At the Mlaha Zonal stage, Segere lost only to Mbaga Mixed 2-1 as they picked wins against Siaya Central (1-0), Siaya Township (2-1), Mulaha (3-0) and drew with Boro (1-1) to finish top in the matches played in round robin format.
In the Boro Division, Segere drew 0-0 to Hono and defeated Kowet (3-1) and Bar Olengo (1-0).
“We have prepared well for the games and nothing is impossible. We want to play big teams to measure our strengths and in fact those are the matches we want to win,” said Juma.
Nyambare Mixed Secondary School from Usonga headline Group B alongside Hono and Hollycross.
In girl’s football, defending champions Hawinga Girls headline Group A where they will face Ulafu and Siaya Township while Group B has Mbaga Girls, Father Gulik, and Hollycross.
In volleyball, Segere will face Dirk Allison, and Barding in Group B while Bar Olengo, Unyolo and hosts Abrose Adeya play in Group A.
In basketball 3x3, defending girls champions Ng’iya Girls will host the matches and coach Naftali Ambala is ready for the counties.
“Last year we were at the nationals and we want to get there again. It was not an easy feat but we have trained well,” said Ambala.
