Eight Kenya Basketball Federation Premier league matches are on the cards this weekend at Nyayo Gymnasium and Eldoret.
Former Men’s Premier League champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) will be hoping for a successful weekend out in Nairobi.
With two matches lined up, double victory will see them return to the top of the standings. Today, they take on United States International University of Africa (USIU-A) Tigers while tomorrow they will be up against University of Nairobi (UoN) Terror.
The dockers, who are currently second on the log, will topple champions Nairobi City Thunder from the summit and also create a three-point gap if they secure maximum points from their two ties. Thunder will not be in action this weekend.
Eldoret-based Eldonets Platinum, who have suffered two losses at their own backyard, will be hoping to regain their footing and register wins at Nyayo.
Platinum, who had a good start to the season winning their first four encounters will, however, face an uphill task against Equity Bank Dumas who are wounded from their last weekend defeats to Ulinzi Warriors and African Nazarene University (ANU) Wolfpacks.
Dumas, who seem to be having a dull first leg campaign, will go all out in hunt for a third win.
Tomorrow, Platinum will play newcomers Stanbic Shields. The bankers are currently ninth on the table with seven points from two wins and three losses while Platinum are fourth with 10 points.
Third-placed Umoja Basketball Ball Club will be seeking to consolidate their spot in the top eight when they take on Tigers tomorrow. Tigers, who lead the table from the bottom on the other hand, will be out grab maximum points and move up the standings.
In the women’s title race, Eldonets ladies will entertain Safe Spaces at Uasin Gishu High School Eldoret.
Eldonets, who have lost their last two matches at home to Th3 Swish and former titleholders KPA, will be hoping to break the losing streak and secure their second win this season. They are eighth on the standings from a win and four losses. Safe Spaces on the other hand will be looking to cement their place in the top four.
Strathmore University Swords will be keen to extend their unbeaten run when they take on ANU Panthers tomorrow. Swords are currently seventh with six points from three matches and a victory against ANU Panthers will move them into the top five.
Winless ANU Panthers, who are yearning to register their first win of the season, will clash with UoN Dynamites today.
Defending champions Equity Bank Hawks, who are yet to return to action after the Christmas break, have played three matches only. Division One and Two matches will be played at UoN grounds.
