Two new Mpox cases reported in Nakuru, Mombasa

Two new Mpox cases have been confirmed in Nakuru and Mombasa counties, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 31 since the outbreak began.

In a statement on Monday, December 30, Health PS Mary Muriuki said the highest number of cases continues to be reported in Nakuru (10 cases), followed by Mombasa (9 cases) and Nairobi (2 cases). 

"A total of 217 contacts have been identified, 204 of whom have been monitored for 21 days. Nine contacts tested positive for Mpox, and four remain under follow-up," said Muriuki. 

She noted that Mpox cases have been reported in 12 counties. 

Over 2.6 million travelers have been screened at major entry points, with 351 samples tested and 31 confirmed positive.

The PS reaffirmed its commitment to controlling the outbreak and safeguarding the health of all Kenyans, particularly during the festive season.

She commended public efforts to combat the disease and protect the nation’s well-being.

At the same time, the ministry in partnership with partners, has deployed rapid response teams to assist with contact tracing, active case search, investigations and the management of confirmed cases. 

Murikuki said risk communication and community engagement initiatives are ongoing to educate the public on prevention and control measures.
