Police have denied allegations that activist and Isiolo-based youth leader Sadam Buke was abducted, stating that he is in custody over alleged links to the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA).
In a statement dated Friday, February 7, Police Spokesperson Muchini Nyaga confirmed Buke's arrest, saying he is suspected of facilitating and coordinating OLA activities in Isiolo and Marsabit counties.
“We wish to clarify that Sadam Buke is in lawful custody alongside others. He is suspected of being a key facilitator and coordinator of Oromo Liberation Army in both Isiolo and Marsabit Counties,” NPS said.
Buke was arrested during ‘Operation Ondoa Jangili,’ an ongoing security operation targeting criminal hideouts in the two counties.
“Buke and others are expected to be arraigned,” Muchiri added while reiterating that the National Police Service is committed to upholding human rights and fundamental freedoms.

The operation, launched on Monday, January 3, is led by a multi-agency team aiming to dismantle OLA hideouts in Marsabit and Isiolo.
It follows reports of rising criminal activity in Kenya and Ethiopia, which prompted a meeting between President William Ruto and Ethiopia's National Intelligence Security Service Director General, Redwan Hussien, at State House, Nairobi.
