The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) is launching a comprehensive initiative aimed at tackling the challenge of drug and substance use among university students.

This comes in response to the alarming findings from the recent survey on the Status of Drugs and Substance Use Among University Students that highlighted widespread abuse of substances and drug abuse.

According to NACADA’s CEO, Anthony Omerikwa it is this widespread that prompted the Authority to launch the initiative.

"The regional forums will provide a platform for stakeholders to share insights, identify root causes, and collaboratively design prevention and intervention strategies," said Omerikwa in a statement.

The initiative will be conduct in a series of regional engagements to bring together all stakeholders in the university education sector.

These engagements will be held across various regions to ensure inclusivity and effective participation. They will involve university administrators, students, staff, government agencies, and other key stakeholders in developing sustainable solutions to this challenge.”

The regional forums will further provide an opportunity to share insights, identify root causes, and collaboratively design strategies for both prevention and intervention.

Additionally, it will help strengthen partnerships between NACADA, universities, and other stakeholders to enhance prevention, rehabilitation, and awareness programs.
