Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba will begin her 79-day suspension from the Senate immediately, until May 1.
This is after the High Court upheld a decision made by the Senate in September 2024, to suspend her for gross misconduct.
Deputy Speaker Kathuri Murungi on Tuesday, February 12, confirmed the enforcement of the Senate’s September 2023 resolution to suspend Orwoba following the adoption of the Committee of Powers and Privileges' report on her conduct.
“Having considered this matter, and taking note of the judgment delivered by the Court on 15th January, 2025 and the orders therein, Sen. Gloria Orwoba shall now forthwith commence her suspension.”

“The 79 calendar days that were to be applied in the year 2023 will, therefore, run from today, Wednesday, February 12, 2025 to Thursday, May 1. The Office of the Clerk of the Senate is directed to enforce the Resolution of the Senate made on September 20, 2023, in the terms referred to above.”
During this period, Orwoba will be barred from accessing parliamentary precincts, attending Senate plenary or committee sessions, and will forfeit sitting allowances.
The senator was accused of disrespecting her colleagues by publishing defamatory information and imputing improper motives on fellow lawmakers.
The Powers and Privileges Committee noted that despite being given an opportunity to defend herself, she failed to appear before the panel.
“Senator Orwoba was given an opportunity to be heard but declined to participate in the inquiry; therefore, the committee could not substantiate the claims she made,” stated the committee, chaired by Speaker Amason Kingi.
The Office of the Clerk of the Senate has been directed to enforce the suspension as per the Senate’s resolution.
