Police in Makindu are holding a murder suspect, Musyoki Kavita, who killed his father, Kavita Muli, due to a dispute surrounding wood logs.
The murder leaving the family and neighbours in shock at Kalimani village, Kyale sub-location, Makindu.
On Sunday, the deceased’s wife explained that his husband arrived at home in the morning hours from Makindu township where he ran some errands only to find their son, Muli, having made a traditional earth mound kiln from the logs he had acquired to construct a makeshift goat shed.
A dispute would ensue out of this.
“My husband fell some trees around our home compound and obtained some parts which he intended to build a structure for goats. Then he left for some work at Makindu which took a few days before returning home,” Ndinda Mwania, Kavita’s mother told the standard
On that fateful day when Muli returned home he bitterly quarreled his son after sighting the smoking kiln adjacent to his house with his logs missing.
“Although we all took tea together, my husband kept on questioning why Kavita had decided to make charcoal with his logs. He (Muli) went on with his work and our son left for a nearby market,” she added
He would later return seemingly drunk before going straight to his house for some few minutes, “He returned drunk. He slept briefly and when I was in the bedroom is when I heard someone cut something several times. When I came out I found my son on the act, slashing his father with a panga on his head,” she revealed
Here she would face a difficult task of confronting her son who had the killer weapon at hand, “he had cut him more than 7 times on the head. He was still alive but profusely bleeding. I loudly called out for assistance as my killer son walked away,”.
It would take the intervention of the village elder, Peter Kaumbulu and villagers to arrest the suspect who was finding his way to hide in a nearby hill.
Kavita Sebastian, a last born son in this family described his killer brother as a violent man who had many times threatened brothers and sisters.
“He was staying at home with my mother at most of the times. My father was working at Makindu since our brother had turned violent at most times. We were also forced to leave the home because of his usual chaos around home,” said Sebastian.
Mr. Sebastian, a PTA teacher in a nearby primary school on his side asked courts to administer a harsh sentence to his brother when he finally steps in court.
The body of the old man has since been taken by police to Makindu sub-county hospital morgue.
“The suspect is in custody as investigations continue into the foul murder,” Kyale sub-location Assistant Chief, Shadrack Muia said
