List of black spots to watch out for on Kenyan roads

The Ministry of Interior has identified numerous road sections across the country as black spots, urging motorists to exercise caution when driving through these high-risk areas.

In a circular, the Ministry noted the importance of addressing black spots to improve road safety and reduce fatalities, especially during periods of heavy traffic such as the holiday season.

This follows road crashes in Kenya that have claimed several lives in recent months.

Some of the black spots include;

Rift Valley Region

The Rift Valley region has the highest number of black spots, including:

•    Kinungi–Naivasha–Gilgil Toll Station
•    Molo GSU Camp–Salgaa Stretch
•    Timboroa–Burnt Forest Section
•    Ngata Area Along Nakuru–Eldoret Road

Nairobi Region

In Nairobi, motorists should approach the following areas with care:

•    Kasarani GSU Stretch
•    Westlands–Kabete Road
•    Mombasa Road (Airtel Headquarters to Cabanas)
•    Thika Road (Kenyatta University Area)
•    Ruai Bypass
•    Lang'ata Road (Near Carnivore Junction)
•    General Motors Footbridge

Western Region

Identified black spots in the Western region include:

•    Mbale–Vihiga Road
•    Kakamega–Chavakali Road
•    Makunda Area Along Kakamega–Mumias Road
•    Bungoma–Eldoret–Chemoi Section
•    Webuye–Misikhu Area

Nyanza

In Nyanza, motorists are cautioned about:

•    Awasi–Ahero Stretch
•    Kiboswa–Kisumu Road
•    Daraja Mbili
•    Oyugis–Katitu Road
•    Gucha Bridge

Central Region

Black spots in Central Kenya include:

•    Kiganjo–Naromoru Road
•    Makongeni Area
•    Makutano–Embu Road
•    Thika Blue Post
•    Sagana Bridge Road Section

North Eastern region

In North Eastern, notable danger zones are:

•    Garissa–Madogo Stretch
•    Nkubu–Embu Road Section
•    Mombasa–Nairobi Road (Chumvi Area)

In the Coast region:

•    Mazeras–Miritini Road
•    Kibarani–Changamwe–Makande Roads
•    Maji ya Jumvi
•    Kwale–Matuga Junction
•    Emali Simba Market to Kibwezi
•    Mtito Andei to Tsavo River

The Ministry has asked drivers to remain vigilant and adhere to traffic rules when navigating these high-risk areas to prevent accidents and save lives.
