NCIC condemns Transmara and Kisii clashes, calls for peace

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has strongly condemned the ongoing clashes in Transmara and Kisii, urging an immediate end to hostilities.

In a statement released on Thursday, NCIC Chairperson Samuel Kobia expressed deep concern over the violence, which has resulted in loss of lives, destruction of property, and heightened tensions among local communities.

"We extend our deepest sympathies to the families who have lost their loved ones in this unfortunate violence, and we empathize with those currently receiving treatment," Kobia stated.

In response to the crisis, the commission has deployed a team to the affected areas to facilitate peace talks in collaboration with local leaders, community representatives, and security agencies.

Kobia reaffirmed the NCIC’s commitment to fostering peaceful coexistence, urging communities to embrace non-violent conflict resolution mechanisms.

The commission also warned sternly against incitement and hate speech, emphasizing that those responsible will face legal consequences regardless of their status.

At least two people have been confirmed dead, and several others seriously injured following retaliatory attacks linked to cattle theft along the border.
